Kenya
Nairobi surprises people. It's a busy, modern city, but it also has giraffes you can hand-feed from a platform, orphaned elephants being nursed back to health, and a national park where lions roam against a backdrop of office towers. These day trips are perfect for people with a short stopover or those who want to combine city life with wildlife.
We pick you up from your hotel and start the day with breakfast featuring some of Nairobi's best local produce. Your guide walks you through the day's plan and tells you a bit about the places you'll visit.
Start your morning at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where rescued elephant calves are brought out for feeding and mud baths. It's one of the most genuinely heartwarming wildlife experiences Nairobi offers. Afterwards, head to the Giraffe Centre for a proper nose-to-nose encounter with a Rothschild's giraffe, pellets provided, camera ready.
An early game drive through Nairobi National Park, lions, rhinos, and buffalo, all with the city's skyline hovering in the background. It's genuinely strange, in the best way. In the afternoon, we visit the Karen Blixen Museum, where the farmhouse from 'Out of Africa' still stands exactly as she left it.
A visit to the Kazuri Beads workshop in Karen, where single mothers handcraft beautiful ceramics and jewellery that have been supporting families for decades. The day wraps up at the Bomas of Kenya, a living cultural village where dances and performances from across Kenya's 42 tribes are performed nightly.
