Kenya
There are places that stop you in your tracks. Amboseli is one of them. On a clear morning, you'll look up and see Kilimanjaro, all 5,895 metres of it, draped in snow, looming over a landscape filled with some of the largest elephant herds on earth. It's the kind of view that makes you go completely quiet.
We collect you from Nairobi and head south toward Amboseli National Reserve. After checking into your lodge and having lunch, we head out for an afternoon game drive. Your first look at the "Land of Giants," and if the skies are clear, your first view of Kilimanjaro. We return to camp as the sun sets, in time for dinner.
A full day inside the park. In the morning, we cross the dry salt pan of Lake Amboseli, watching for lions and cheetahs in the shimmering distance. The afternoon takes us to the lush Enkongo Narok swamps, where giant elephant families wade and splash. We break for a picnic lunch at Observation Hill, with sweeping views across the plains, before wrapping the day back at camp.
An early morning drive for those final Kilimanjaro shots before the clouds roll in. After breakfast, we stop at a local Maasai village, a genuinely warm encounter with people who've shared this land with elephants for generations. Then it's the drive back to Nairobi, with your heart still somewhere in the savanna.
